It all started in 1986 as a spontaneous idea from Gianfranco Brignone’s chinese friend Andrés Yanome—to celebrate the Year of the Tiger, Gianfranco’s zodiac year. Since then, it has grown into one of Careyes’ most cherished traditions. Blending Chinese rituals, Mexican artistry, and the signature magic of Careyes, this multi-day celebration includes a polo tournament, curated gatherings and experiences, culminating in a themed evening of live performances, a special dinner, our traditional poncho ceremony, the zodiac statue unveiling, music, and fireworks.
What began as a casual invitation for a friendly polo match from Giorgio Brignone and Alberto Ardissone to their polo friends around the world has evolved into one of Mexico’s most recognized and important polo tournaments. Held every Easter Week, the Agua Alta Cup brings together world-class talent from Mexico, U.S, South America, and Europe for a week of thrilling matches and vibrant community gatherings—celebrating polo with timeless elegance, passion, and the unmistakable spirit of Careyes.
